Universal Device Poller

Out of the box, Orion NPM ships with a MIB database that covers the vast majority of common network devices. But for that handful of odd devices that are lurking in your network - or for newer devices that have MIB tables - Version 9 now enables you to collect valuable and highly detailed management data. With Version 9, you can collect and analyze data on virtual machines on a VMware^® ESX server, the performance of fiber channel switches, traffic on lightweight wireless access points, and much more!

With the new Universal Device Poller, Orion NPM makes it easy to create a custom poller to monitor any SNMP-enabled device value that has a MIB, including virtually any statistic that a network device records. Examples include monitoring temperature on a switch, fan speed on a router, and battery status on a UPS.

Additionally, Version 9 has the ability to customize how you want the collected data displayed for graphing, alerting, and reporting purposes. And, using the MIB Transformation Wizard, you can convert MIB values into the units of measurement that are most useful to you. Choose from a list of common transformations, such as converting monitored CPU temperatures from Celsius to Fahrenheit, or create your own multi-MIB formulas to display, for example, the average interface throughput on a router. You can even export MIB pollers or transformations you've created, or import those created by others.

Web-based Node Management

Orion NPM Version 9 can now be administered through an intuitive point-and-click web console. This time-saving approach means you no longer have to RDP into the host monitoring server. Through the web console, you can:

• Add, delete, and modify nodes, interfaces, and volumes
• Un-manage and re-manage multiple nodes
• Modify multiple elements at once
• Delegate access to web-based node management
• Assign custom properties to nodes and interfaces
• Assign universal pollers

Additional Enhancements to Orion NPM Version 9

• Dozens of new devices have been added to the MIB database and to Orion NPM's out-of-the-box monitoring profiles
• A high-performance, AJAX-enabled version of the All Nodes resource is now included as a core component of Orion NPM
• Thwack - SolarWinds' community site - is now integrated into Orion NPM web interface to bring you updates on newly available resources, such as new pollers
• Orion NPMs charting capabilities have been updated with new, more useful graphics
• Orion NPM now supports variables in the Custom HTML resource
• A new and improved Administration view has been added for your display enhancement
